St Mary Mackillop College’s artists making a splash with Water Week posters

Five young artists from St Mary Mackillop College in Busselton have made a splash for National Water Week, receiving local awards in the Water Week Primary School Poster Competition.

The theme for Week, which ran from 19-26 October, was Water is Life – highlighting how deeply water connects to every aspect of our world.

A record 115 entries from six local primary schools were received, as students looked to raise awareness around the importance of water.

The College’s five award recipients were:

  • Isla (winner) and Iris (runner-up) in the Pre-Primary category
  • Winter (winner) and Alice (runner-up) in the Year 3 and 4 category
  • Kera (runner up) in the Year 5 and 6 category

Each winner receives a $100 prize pack with runners-up receiving a $50 prize pack.

Busselton Water CEO David Hughes-Owen said:

‘Our whole team really enjoyed seeing the work put in by all the students and judging was certainly not an easy task.

‘We really appreciate everyone who took the time to get involved and bring this year’s competition to life.’

The winners and runners-up progressed to the national competition, judged by the Australian Water Association.

National Water Week is an opportunity for the whole of Australia to come together to take action to protect our finite water sources and to celebrate innovation and achievements in water that underpin our sustainability and economic prosperity
