St Helena’s Catholic Primary School marks 25 Years of Catholic education in the Swan Valley

During the week the school’s Library was transformed into a mini museum where old yearbooks, faded class photos, and artifacts from the past adorned the displays.

Students and visitors marvelled at how far the school had come since its beginnings as a multi-age grouping school with only 45 students and 5 foundation staff members.

The original foundation quilt that was created by the inaugural parent body was recreated with students designing squares for a new quilt. Students also worked in buddies to create scarves which were then donated to the local Ellenbrook Meals Charity and ran stalls to raise money for Catholic Mission.

To commemorate the 25^th anniversary, a new artwork was installed in the school. The school’s cross, which is featured in St Helena CPS’ logo and in the metal work across the school, is surrounded by the four faction colours.

As part of the celebration, the community gathered together for a Mass, concelebrated by Fr. Bona and previous Ellenbrook Parish priest, Fr. Francis. Their presence bridged the past and present, reminding everyone of the spiritual foundation upon which the school was built.

Students and staff were joined by CEWA’s Executive Director, Wayne Bull and Deputy Executive Director, Annette Morey, as well as past principal Lina Bertolini, parents, family members, parishioners and more to celebrate the school’s development. It was great to be joined by foundation staff, who could witness the legacy they helped create and touring the school to see how it has changed.

As the school community gathered as one, they reflected on the values that have sustained St Helena’s for a quarter-century: faith, compassion, and a commitment to doing “Something Beautiful for God” everyday! Here’s to the next 25 years of community, equality, learning, and memories!
