Join St Mary’s Primary School to mark their 125th anniversary

St Mary’s Primary School in Kalgoorlie is encouraging former staff, students, and the wider community to join the school on 8 November to celebrate its 125th anniversary.

This significant milestone provides an opportunity for the school to reflect on its rich history, honour its founding vision, and celebrating the enduring spirit of the St Mary’s school community.

The story began in the heart of the Goldfields, where the Sisters of St John of God courageously responded to the call to educate and care for children in a remote and challenging environment. Their faith, resilience, and compassion laid the foundation for what was then a humble Parish school.

Over the decades, the mission was carried forward

by the Josephite Sisters and the Mercy Sisters, each bringing their unique charisms, service, justice, and love to the classrooms, playgrounds, and hearts of generations of students.

Their legacy continues to shape the values and culture of St Mary’s today.

Throughout its history, the school has been known by many names: The St Mercy Convent SchoolThe Nun’s SchoolKalgoorlie Catholic Primary School, and St Mary’s. While the name has evolved, the heart of our school has remained a constant place where children are nurtured in faith, encouraged to grow, and inspired to make a difference.

To mark the occasion a special celebration is being held on Saturday 8 November 2025, beginning with Mass at St Mary’s Church, Kalgoorlie at 10.30am and followed by lunch and tours of the school. The afternoon will also include a blessing and opening of the school’s Early Childhood Building and a sundowner at Hannans Club.

Interested parties are encouraged to follow St Mary’s Facebook page for further information.

Principal, Elizabeth Browner said:

“As we celebrate this special anniversary, we honour the educators, families, and students, past and present, who have contributed to our story. We give thanks for the spirit of community that has sustained us through 125 years of change, challenge, and achievement.”
