Start of Year Message

Dear colleagues, students, parents, and friends of Catholic education,

It is my pleasure to welcome you back to the 2026 school year. I hope that you had a peaceful break with your loved ones.

For those families who are experiencing Catholic education for the first time this year, I know you will find welcoming school communities with high quality teaching and plenty of opportunities for your child to discover and develop their talents and interests. I also welcome back those families returning to us. Thank you for continuing to place your trust in our schools to educate your child.

In 2026, there are 83,000 students being educated in 161 schools spanning the entire length and breadth of our state. Among students and staff returning to school this year will be those at the newly amalgamated, Aranmore Catholic College. The Pre-Kindy to Year 12 College in Leederville is experiencing its first year as a composite school following the merger of Aranmore Catholic Primary School and Aranmore Catholic College.

Our community of Catholic schools continues to grow. St Marcellin Catholic College in Madora Bay will be opening to Year 3 for the first time this year; three schools (St Mary’s College in Broome, St Emilie’s Catholic Primary School in Canning Vale and St Mary’s Primary School in Kalgoorlie) have introduced Pre-Kindy and Salvado Catholic College will be farewelling their first cohort of Year 12 students.

I am pleased to welcome the new Catholic Education Commission WA Chair, Tim Shanahan, who began his role on 27 January. I look forward to working with Tim in championing the work being done by thousands of dedicated staff across our schools and offices.

Throughout the year you will see many examples of why families continue to seek out a quality, affordable, faith-based education for their child. I encourage you to follow CEWA and your local school on Facebook and Instagram to see the wonderful initiatives being implemented in our schools across WA.

I wish you all a successful year ahead.

God Bless.
