Peel primary students get taste of high school with MCC visit

22 June 2021

During Term Two, Year Four students from CEWA primary schools in the Peel region got an introduction to high school life with a ‘Taster Day’ at Mandurah Catholic College.

The College opened its doors to students from Assumption Catholic Primary School in Mandurah, St Damien’s Catholic Primary School in Dawesville, St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School in Pinjarra and St Joseph’s School in Waroona – a group of students who are set to be in the MCC Year 7 Class of 2024.

The students dove straight into a day of exploration and excitement, experiencing a selection of Secondary curriculum offerings.

There were hands-on STEAM activities including chemistry experiments and Co2 dragster racing, cooking in the College cooking rooms, learning a routine in the dance studio, and using the DSLR cameras and green screen in the Media Studio.

The day was also intended to help students create new bonds with future classmates from other schools.

“Mandurah Catholic College is proud to work in partnership with feeder schools and the Peel Catholic community to provide an affordable, Christ-centred and child-focused educational pathway, creating successful and inspiring future leaders,” said Chris Wallace, Mandurah Catholic College Principal.

“It is wonderful to be able to work alongside Catholic Primary schools in our region to provide a seamless Kindergarten to Year 12 education journey for students,

“Initiatives like the Taster Day help with this goal, as does our family discount, with discounts applied to tuition fees for siblings at St Damien’s and Assumption Catholic Primary School, not just for siblings at the College,” Mr Wallace said.

“In terms of fees, this family discount is applied as though the children all attend one school.”

Both St Joseph’s schools, in Pinjarra and Waroona, are part of an affordability initiative introduced by CEWA for a number of schools in 2019, where highly reduced school fees are standard for all students.
