Newest Catholic School, St Marcellin Catholic College, opens doors to first students

Western Australia’s newest Catholic School, St Marcellin Catholic College has opened its doors to 100 foundation pupils from Pre-Kindy to Year 2, and twenty foundation staff.

St Marcellin will offer families in Madora Bay the choice of an affordable, quality, faith-based education. The College serves an area which is expected to see its population grow by 46% in the ten-year period to 2031.

Catholic Education WA’s Deputy Executive Director, Annette Morey attended the first day of school at St Marcellin Catholic College and said:

“The opening of a new school takes many hours of dedication and commitment for countless people. On behalf of Catholic Education WA, I want to thank St Marcellin Catholic College’s Foundation Principal, Anita O’Donohue, foundation staff, school advisory council members, and the wider community for their ongoing support in the lead up to this opening.”

“I hope that the foundation students and their families have a successful year ahead and find at St Marcellin a welcoming, inclusive school community with the needs of their children and the spirit of Christian service at its heart.”

St Marcellin Catholic College Principal, Anita O’Donohue said:

“Our foundation staff are delighted to welcome our very first cohort of students to St Marcellin Catholic College. We have been working hard to ensure we are ready for this exciting chapter and to welcome our students to their new school.”

As part of the opening, each of the foundation students and their families brought soil  from their homes which they combined to plant an orange tree in honour of St Marcellin, who was known to grow many fruit trees. The planting also included soil from what will be the permanent St Marcellin school site as well as from local Catholic schools, Newman College (in honour of St Marcellin), and the Catholic Education Office.
