Established in 2014, La Salle College’s Galileo after-school program has been running successfully for the past four years. Gifted Year 4 students are nominated by feeder primary schools to participate in the program each year, which allows them to explore further learning in multi-disciplinary studies in a secondary school setting.

Angela Johnson, the Learning Area Coordinator for Learning Support, oversees the Galileo program on Thursday afternoons. Each program is based around a different theme and gives them access to relevant areas of the school. This year, the theme is biodiversity, so students have access to computer labs, art rooms and science laboratories at the College.

Students who participate in the Year 4 program are then invited back to take part in the Year 5 program which runs for a semester.

The current Year 5 participants will be congratulated and farewelled with an afternoon tea at the conclusion of this semester, to thank students and parents for their time and effort, while the Year 4 participants will continue in the program through to the end of 2017.
