Happy 40th to Padbury Catholic Primary School

On 24 October 2025, Padbury Catholic Primary School celebrated its 40th anniversary. The occasion was not only a time to reflect on the school’s rich history but also a moment to celebrate the incredible journey that has shaped the school into the thriving educational community it is today.

The anniversary celebrations began with a beautiful liturgy that set the tone for the entire day. The liturgy was highlighted by moving performances of song and liturgical dance, which filled the hall with energy and spirit. This opening ceremony was a powerful reminder of the faith, unity and sense of community that has been at the heart of Padbury Catholic primary School since its founding.

Sister Carmel Wringe, the founding principal of Padbury Catholic Primary School, graced the occasion with a heartfelt speech. She took the audience on a journey through the early days of the school, reflecting on the vision and determination that led to the creation of what has now become an extraordinary institution. Her words were a fitting tribute to the generations of students, staff and families who have contributed to the school’s legacy.

Current Principal, Mrs Margaret Williamson, also delivered a moving speech that captured the essence of her seven years at the helm of Padbury Catholic Primary School. Mrs Williamson spoke of the school’s growth, challenges and the many rewarding experiences that have marked her tenure. Her reflections resonated deeply with those present, as she shared the collective achievements of the school community and outlined the vision for its continued future.

Over 100 guests, including past staff, parents, students and members of the broader community, gathered to celebrate this remarkable milestone. The presence of so many who have contributed to the school’s legacy made the day even more special. After the formal speeches and liturgy, guests were treated to a delightful morning tea. The students were also given a special morning tea, organised by the staff.

One of the highlights of the day was the History Wall and Memorabilia showcasing the school’s journey over the past four decades. Visitors were able to explore the school’s evolution, tracing its milestones, achievements and the spirit that has defined Padbury Catholic Primary School from the beginning.

Open classrooms provided another special experience, allowing guests to step inside the vibrant learning environments where the school’s educational philosophy is brought to life every day. The joy and enthusiasm in the classrooms were palpable and visitors were able to see firsthand the innovative teaching and learning that are the hallmarks of Padbury Catholic Primary School.

In the afternoon, the children participated in tabloid sports, a fitting way to celebrate the lively, energetic spirit that defines Padbury Catholic Primary School. The friendly games, combined with the smiles and laughter, was a wonderful way to end a day filled with reflection, celebration, and community.

During the anniversary celebrations Principal, Margaret Williamson addressed the gathered community saying:

“Today, we gather as one community to celebrate an extraordinary milestone: 40 years of Padbury Catholic Primary School — 40 years of faith, learning, service, and community. As I stand here today, reflecting on the last seven years of serving as Principal, I am filled with immense gratitude for the journey we have shared and the progress we have made together. It has been a period of growth, challenges, and, above all, rewarding experiences. I am so proud of all that we have achieved as a community.”

Mrs Williamson spoke of the school’s growth both in numbers and spirit. Since taking on the role of Principal in 2019, the school’s enrolment has increased to 526 students, spanning from Pre-Kindergarten to Year 6.

Alongside this growth, the school has welcomed families from diverse backgrounds, which has enriched the community and strengthened its cultural fabric.

She also highlighted the school’s continued commitment to its mission of educating the whole child, focusing not only on academic excellence but also on nurturing faith, character, and service. The introduction of the Medals of Mercy Token System, which encourages students to live out the values of Mercy, has been one of the initiatives that Mrs Williamson is particularly proud of, along with the growth in extracurricular offerings that provide students with the opportunity to discover their talents and passions.

As she closed her speech, Mrs Williamson expressed her heartfelt thanks to everyone who has contributed to the success of PCPS:

“To our founding principal Sr Carmel and those who came before me: thank you for planting the seeds of this beautiful community. To our staff: thank you for your unwavering dedication. To our students: thank you for the joy and inspiration you bring every day. To our parents and parish: thank you for walking this journey with us.”
