Hands-on learning at St Anthony’s

Throughout Term Three, Kindy students at St Anthony’s School in Greenmount took a hands-on approach to learn about Australia and the natural environment through their surroundings.

Inquiry-based activities focused on Australian animals and plants, and explored the knowledge of Aboriginal people in relation to Australian environments, flora and fauna, and Aboriginal people’s storytelling through art.

The students were able to collect plants, flowers, soil, bark and charcoal on a bush walk, and experiment with crushing them to create paints for a collaborative art piece telling stories about what they had learned.

“The Kindy children enjoyed this hands-on approach to making their own paint and turning it into a bush collage,” said St Anthony’s Assistant Principal and Year One Teacher, Sarah Potts.

“The inquiry approach is something that we are incorporating across all year levels at the school,”
