celebrating French-speaking countries with fun facts and prizes.
“The quiz was a fun way to learn about countries I didn’t even realise spoke French!” said Sarah, Year 7 student who placed second.
The College also observed St Joseph’s Day, a significant celebration in Italy and in the Catholic calendar, with classroom activities and whole-school reflections on its meaning as Father’s Day in Italian culture.
As part of the experience, students enjoyed an authentic Italian pastry named Zeppole di San Giuseppe, deepening their appreciation for Italian heritage through this cultural and culinary delight.
“In Italy, this day is an opportunity to honour fathers while reflecting on values like humility, love, and dedication, inspired by Saint Joseph himself. And, of course, no Italian tradition is complete without delicious food! Students explored the folklore behind Zeppole di San Giuseppe, the iconic pastries associated with this celebration,” Sarah added.
Although there are few native French speakers at the school, student interest in the language is strong, driven by a genuine appreciation for its global influence.
“This term, we’ve just scratched the surface. Our goal is to make languages visible, celebrated, and meaningfully connected to our students’ world,” Gigi Thiele, Head of Languages.
Principal Jeff Allen added, “language learning at Corpus Christi is about empathy, communication, and connection – essential for forming globally minded and compassionate citizens.”
