End of Term Message

Dear Colleagues, students, parents, and friends,

We have come to the end of another very busy term for Catholic education. I want to thank our principals, teachers, and support staff for their efforts this term to ensure our schools are welcoming, faith-filled places of high-quality learning.

This term marks the end of the journey with Catholic Education WA for our Year 12 students, as their focus shifts to exams. I wish them well and hope that they look back on their time with us with fondness and feel supported to reach the goals they have set themselves going forward. I also take this opportunity to remind them to look after their mental, physical, and spiritual wellness and to reach out when they need support.

The Performing Arts Festival for Catholic Schools and Colleges, and Angelico Art Exhibition have been taking place throughout this term. I was pleased to speak at the opening mass and attend the Festival Concert, and to see some of the incredible performances. In total we had 18,000 students from 114 schools, including 12 regional schools, taking part in the programme, which was fantastic to see. We also had a record-breaking year for the Angelico Art Exhibition with 268 primary entries from 43 schools and 183 secondary entries from 32 schools. It is inspiring to see the level of talent developed in our schools and to witness the spirit of service from teachers, parents and other volunteers who ensure events run smoothly.

Throughout the term, our school and system leaders have been gathering around the state for a series of Leaders’ Forum Roadshows. These were an opportunity for me to share my vision for Catholic education, and for attendees to build relationships with colleagues and discuss topics covering the governance of our system, such as AI, CEWA’s Vision for Learning, and Integral Human Development. I want to thank everyone involved in the planning and delivery of these roadshows as well as those staff members who presented.

Next term we celebrate the outstanding initiatives in our schools which exemplify our Quality Catholic Education (QCE) pillars of Education, Catholic Identity, Community, and Stewardship. This year’s Awards have seen a record 112 nominations from 66 schools with projects including a partnership with a local memory cafe, instructional masses, the ethical use of AI, and sustainability initiatives. I look forward to acknowledging the winners when they are announced at our Staff Breakfast in October.

At that Staff Breakfast we will also be honouring those of our colleagues who are marking 30, 40, and 50 years of service to Catholic education. This level of dedication typifies the values of Catholic education and is a great example to generations of young people of what a life of service looks like.

I hope you have a restful holiday, and I look forward to seeing you next term.

God Bless.

Yours sincerely,

Annette Morey

Executive Director
