More than 250 students at Chisholm Catholic College have experienced wheelchair basketball recently through the Wheel Life Program delivered by Rebound WA.  

Rebound WA Programs Officer Amber Merrit has provided the students with insight into what it is like to live with disability, and challenged them to try and understand this better through playing wheelchair basketball.

Chisholm’s Health and Physical Education Department received funding for the program from a Better Bayswater Grant after deciding they wanted to increase awareness of people with disability in the community.   

Year 11 student and basketball player Christina Bull described the Rebound WA event as a humbling experience which helped her appreciate the gifts she has been given but often takes for granted.  

“I enjoyed it just as much as my basketball games without a chair, and I felt a sense of accomplishment scoring a shot,” she said. 

Chisholm Catholic College plan to continue working with Rebound WA, and expect the partnership to have a long-term effect on students as the College strives to create a more cohesive and inclusive community.
