Many CEWA schools usually plan hands-on community events to celebrate mothers for Mother’s Day, however coronavirus health and safety considerations have required different approaches this year.
Determined to honour all of the mums, aunties and nannas despite the cancellation of their community afternoon tea, St Mary’s School in Northampton created and shared a video with Mother’s Day messages from their students.
At Ursula Frayne Catholic College, a morning tea celebration usually takes place on campus with Middle School mums, grandmas, aunts and significant women in the students’ lives.
The event has grown each year – in 2019 more than 400 mums, grandmas and guests, plus students, attended Mass then stayed for food and drinks.
With the morning tea unable to take place this year, staff created packs to be sent out to all of the Middle School mothers, including a printed coaster created in the technology department, some Swan River Daisy seeds for gardens, some tea, a prayer written by a student, and a note.
Fr Bello blessed the items before they were put in envelopes to send out.
