21 August 2020

Three CEWA Education Assistants have been recognised by the Australian Teacher Aide organisation in the lead up to their 2020 awards, with a Year Five Teacher Assistant from St Pius X Catholic Primary School named as the Finalist for WA.

Callum Walley is a Teacher’s Assistant at St Pius X CPS and Whadjuk-Ballardong Noongar man, and part of the CEWA Aboriginal Cadetship Program.

His selection as the WA finalist puts him in the running to be named Australian Teacher Aide of the Year in the national awards, with judges recognising his positive impact on student learning and wellbeing, as well as the videos he has created to help connect the school to the community.

St Pius X Principal Daine Burnett said that the school was truly blessed to have amazing staff, with Mr Walley serving as an outstanding example of this.

“Through his authentic and personable relationships with students, staff and parents, Mr Walley helps bring alive the community and foster engagement at St Pius X,

“He has recently taken it upon himself to produce Mr Walley’s World on Facebook and has helped formulate the Dads n Lads group at the school – he is truly deserving of this acknowledgement,” Mr Burnett said.

Annette Bolton from St Helena’s Catholic Primary School was also highly commended by Australian Teacher Aide for her expertise in Braille, Key Sign, Auslan and Compic, and Belinda Henderson from Mary’s Mount Primary School was highly commended for her passion and commitment to sustainability and environmental awareness.

Congratulations to Annette, Belinda and Callum! For more information on Callum’s selection as a finalist you can visit the Australian Teacher Aide of the Year Awards page.
