As CEWA schools celebrate NAIDOC week with a variety of activities, office staff get hands-on with Kaartdijin (Knowledge) Week

CEWA staff who were working from the Leederville office from 5-9 September celebrated NAIDOC Week 2016 with Kaartijin Week, a program of events put together by the Aboriginal Education Team.

Kaartijin Week (kaartijin is the Noongar word for knowledge) activities included a collaborative art work created by staff under the guidance of Noongar artist and cultural educator Jade Dolman, a talk with the Aboriginal Catholic Ministry about their work and Aboriginal Spirituality's relationship to Catholicism, a Great Book Swap event raising money for Indigenous Literacy Day, and a cultural tour around Lake Monger with Noongar guide Shaun Nannup.

Staff across the state were also able to join in Kaartijin Week remotely by taking part in the daily quiz.

Kaartijin Week related directly to an action of the CEWA offices' Reconciliation Action Plan, which calls for 'acknowledgement and respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples' national days of significance' with practical opportunities for learning and engagement for all staff.
