Aquinas Schola Choir back-up star’s Christmas record

14 December 2020

Aquinas College students in the Schola Choir made the most of a unique and exciting opportunity this year, recording backing vocals for a recently released Christmas record by Andrea Corr, of the The Corrs fame.

Eight choir members, between six and 13 years of age, recorded backing vocals for the original track ‘Begin Again’ at Crank Studios in Northbridge, but also connected with Andrea and the majority of the production team in Ireland via Zoom.

Year Six student and Schola performer, Dashiell, was one of the boys to take part.

Ahead of the recording Dashiell said: “I’m nervous but very excited because it’s my first professional recording,”

Schola Choir Director, Hugh Lydon, said that it was a great opportunity for the students, and the College.

“We were deeply honoured to be asked and couldn’t be prouder of the boys for all their hard work and professionalism,” Mr Lydon said.

Andrea said that the songs on the record, many of which she had grown up with, had taken on new significance in 2020.

With the COVID-19 pandemic complicating recording this year, Andrea’s team searched internationally for a choir who could sing together in the   same room, eventually discovering the Aquinas Schola Choir, along with the Giovanni Consort Choir who are also located in Perth and feature on the record.

You can hear the Aquinas College Schola Boys Choir on ‘Andrea Corr Christmas Songs’, which is available to stream or download.
