100 Years of Catholic education celebrated in Dardanup

06 March 2020

At the start of Term One, Our Lady of Lourdes school in Dardanup celebrated 100 years since classes first began 100 years ago.

The centenary celebrations were timed to coincide with the feast of Our Lady of Lourdes, spanning over a weekend.

A Friday night gala began the program of events, before a day of activities attended by hundreds of past and present students, school families, community members and guests, including the Most Reverend Gerard Holohan, Bishop of Bunbury, CEWA Executive Director Dr Debra Sayce, Sr Pauline Masters, the last Sister of Mercy Principal to have served at the school, and Troy Bennell, who conducted a Welcome to Country.

A highlight of the centenary commemoration was the official blessing and opening of the memorial garden, which featured paving bricks bearing the names of community members over the years.

Classrooms were open throughout the day, with displays relating to the school through the decades, an opened time capsule, and video interviews of past and present students playing on classroom screens.

A thanksgiving Mass was held outdoors in the afternoon, with the day wrapping up with a dinner for guests.
