We’re All In This Together: PFFWA Conference and Awards Engage and Celebrate

The annual Parents and Friends Federation of WA State Conference was held at St Brigid’s College in Lesmurdie on May 26 and covered a range of topics including a keynote address from Dr Tim Moore from the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute.

Dr Moore spoke about the role and nature of relationships and how this relates to authentic engagement.

As a developmental psychologist, he has taken a leading role in the development of policy and training in the early childhood intervention field and his work has had a significant impact on practice and policy both nationally and internationally.

The conference also featured an address from Minister for Education and Training, Hon Sue Ellery and a special panel discussion on bullying facilitated by parenting expert Claire Orange.

The night before the conference the PFFWA held the opening dinner and Awards of Excellence in Building Positive Catholic School Communities.

There was a high number of nominations in each category and all were of an extremely high standard.

The Awards look at those within school communities who through their hard work and commitment demonstrate positive outcomes for students, families and the wider school community.

St Matthew’s School P&F from Narrogin won the Parent Group Award for demonstrating positive outcomes for students and the school community, while Claire Bevan from Holy Rosary in Derby was recognised in the Parent category for working collaboratively with the school Principal, staff and other parents in all aspects involving the P&F.

The Parish award went to Our Lady of Assumption Parish for its work in strengthening its bond with Mandurah Catholic College and Broome’s St Mary’s College Head of Primary Coby Rhatigan, was rewarded for always going above and beyond for all in the community.

A special award was given to Annamaria Cream for the amazing work she does with all the boarding families at St Brigid’s College, Lesmurdie.
