Prendiville Catholic College TIDE products to reach Canadian shores

09 March 2018

Prendiville Catholic College’s TIDE, (Technology, Innovation, Design and Enterprise) business has been running successfully under the school’s FlexEd program since it opened at the start of 2016. Previously known as Manual Arts, it since evolved into TIDE through the vision of Subject Coordinator Warrick Palmateer and Lynn Vroombout who is now TIDE Coordinator.

Prendiville Catholic College principal, Mark Antulov describes FlexEd as a product of the inspiring and captivating learning environment the school creates to accommodate to all educational requirements.

“FlexEd is an alternative schooling program designed for students who learn more efficiently in an adaptable, practical and nurturing environment. The FlexEd students work under the wing of TIDE, (Technology, Innovation, Design and Enterprise) which is a fully operational business run through the school. TIDE is approached by clients commissioning products made from a variety of materials, primarily glass” he said.

Students work with a variety of materials in TIDE, however, the glasswork products have proven very popular – with many Catholic Education Western Australia schools ordering from TIDE as well as Catholic organisations across Australia, reaching as far as the Daly River! You may have come across some of their glass crosses in your own schools, with St Luke’s College, Mandurah Catholic College and St Helena’s Catholic Primary School all having ordered from TIDE.

TIDE Coordinator Lynn Vroombout recently created a beautiful glass version of Edmund Rice College’s new logo (pictured above), that was mounted on a beautiful wooden cross by school technician Leandro Martins.

TIDE is currently working on an order for 40 Aboriginal message sticks made of glass with silver inclusions, which will be taken to an Indigenous conference in Canada and presented to dignitaries. Other notable works include production of 1200mm glass cross for Notre Dame University’s new Indigenous Centre, Manjaree Centre, as well as their ‘aCROSS the World’ project which saw 140 200mm crosses placed in various schools and Christian institutions around the World last year.

TIDE has a beautiful gallery and shop that opened to the public in November last year, be sure to check it out!
