NAIDOC Week at Emmanuel Catholic College

03 August 2017

Students of Emmanuel Catholic College in Success joined NAIDOC week celebrations last month, welcoming one of Australia’s most admired Aboriginal singer-song writers, Philip Walley-Stack to perform a Welcome to Country as well as two of his songs for students.

NAIDOC week takes place each year in celebration of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and history, and Catholic schools across Western Australia join in the celebrations through various in-school and nationwide activities.

Along with quizzes, hand print activities and rock art, the school community was joined by Acacia Cultural Designs who created a sand mural reflecting the 2017 NAIDOC theme “our language matters”, which was a beautiful addition to the spirit of the day.

“NAIDOC week was a great success and could not have been possible without the support of staff members and the enthusiasm of students” said Miss Collard, Aboriginal Islander Liaison Officer at the College.
