Careers take flight for Santa girls

14 November 2019

Year 10 Santa Maria College student Amy Roche’s long-standing interest in aviation took her all the way to last month’s Girls In Aviation Day at Jandakot Airport.

Amy was joined by Year 11s Laknavi Katuwawala and Shriya Neelankavil, with the trio spending the day among a small group that visited stalls with information on the different employment opportunities that exist in the aviation industry.

For Amy, it was an eye-opening and enjoyable experience.

We looked at jobs such as engineers, flight attendants, pilots, graphic designers, painters and many more, she said.

“At the end of the day, we were free to go and talk to anyone who ran the stalls if we were interested in finding out more.

“I really enjoyed the day as I have always had an interest in aviation – it really helped me to gain more of an understanding of the different jobs available.

“Also, it allowed me to talk to people in the industry and get a better idea of what the jobs were like.

“It was great to be able to spend the day with other girls who had similar interests to me.”
