CEWA leaders gather for first Forum of 2018

23 February 2018

Approximately 250 CEWA principals, school and system leaders from across the state met this week for the first of two 2018 Leaders’ Forums, to discuss key developments and strategy for the CEWA system.

Dr Richard Walley OAM, a Noongar elder and educator, started the day’s proceedings with a Welcome to Country, before a group of principals led a prayer and reflection.

CEWA Acting Executive Director, Dr Debra Sayce, then set the scene for the CEWA system’s work in 2018, and the Most Reverend Gerard Holohan, Bishop of Bunbury and Chair of the Catholic Education Commission of Western Australia (CECWA), reminded participants of the aims of Catholic education, and how CEWA schools provided hope and direction for young people and families.

The Forum served as a platform to launch CEWA’s Child Safe Framework, and WA’s Commissioner for Children and Young People, Colin Pettit, attended to speak on research conducted by his office, and express his support for CEWA’s own work in developing the Framework.

The event also provided principals with a first look at CEWA’s Vision for Learning, a document which will underpin ongoing improvement in teaching and learning practices for all schools in the Catholic system.

Leaders’ Forum is held twice annually, connecting Catholic school leadership teams and system staff from across WA face to face to discuss issues and developments affecting their students and their work, and helping schools to get the most out of belonging to a state-wide learning network.
